Dean Technology, Inc., today announced the introduction of its new technology for high voltage diode production – XOE™, eXtreme Optimized Efficiency. Using the same production line, raw materials, and achieving the same overall yield, diodes made with this technology offer dramatic upgrades in performance in devices of the same size.

Diode performance is a delicate balance between many variables, each having a direct impact on the performance of the other. The high voltage diode engineers at Dean Technology (DTI), through a multiple year research and development effort, discovered that by tightly controlling all of these variables and individually designing all elements of each diode it is possible to increase the overall performance beyond that of similarly sized products using the same raw materials.

The benefits of XOE include higher current capabilities, lower voltage drop, reduced heat dissipation, better breakdown immunity from transitions into the avalanche region, and enhanced reliability for end user products and a cost effective and easy migration path for existing circuit board platforms. DTI’s new XGF15 axial lead 15 kV high voltage diode shows the significant improvements over the standard G15FS version.

“XOE shows our overall commitment to taking legacy products into the future. We wanted to meet customers continued demands for better performance and smaller sizes, but we didn’t want to have to move into more exotic and expensive materials to accomplish it,” said Pedro H. Gonzalez, technical product manager for the HVCA line at Dean Technology. “By going through the design of our high voltage diodes step by step, and redesigning for the best possible efficiencies we are able to offer products that are an example of the future of the product type.”

DTI has many axial lead high voltage diodes built with XOE technology currently available, information is available for these products on the company’s website. Additional parts will be introduced throughout the coming months including upgraded version of all of Dean Technology’s current discrete diodes in both axial lead and surface mount configurations. As with almost everything that the company produces, custom designs using the XOE technology are available to meet individual design need for all applications that require high voltage.

Through individually designing and producing high voltage diodes with a focus on minimizing loss and maximizing efficiency, XOE technology offers upgraded performance from similarly sized devices using the same materials. HVP Now Offers up to 30 kV in Surface Mount SL Series!

HVP Introduces 20, 25, and 30 kV Surface Mount Diodes!
When we first introduced the SL series we knew we could get extreme voltages into surface mount diodes, now we’re proving it! With the introduction of three new diodes in our long surface mount package, the SL series moves to fulfill it’s mission of offering customers a complete range of high voltage diodes in a surface mount design.

Details for these additional parts are on our website now:

  • SLA20S – 20,000 Volt / 55 mA
  • SLA25S – 25,000 Volt / 50 mA
  • SLA30S – 30,000 Volt / 40 mA

There is still an extensive roadmap for these parts, including a new gull wing lead configuration, so keep an eye out for new standard products to be introduced in the coming months. Custom diodes in this surface mount package are available now for customers that have specific needs not met by the products immediately available. These parts are on the shelf and ready to be included in your new designs now!

DTI's NEW Optocoupler!

Dean Technology, Inc., today announced the introduction of a new high voltage optocoupler, the OPC10M. This 10 kV optical switch is able to variably control a high voltage
output up to 10,000 volts by adjusting a reference low voltage input, and is the first product in a new set of optical devices that DTI will be introducing in its HVCA line of products over the coming months.

Dean Technology’s optical switch products consist of a central diode and two or more LED drivers in a fully encapsulated and light-tight package. It is exceptionally space efficient, and the tight control of production methods will allow DTI to offer these parts at prices far better than competitive solutions.

“We’re starting off our optical switch line with a 10 kV part that should provide a perfect solution for many of the applications where this kind of device can be used,” said Lynn Roszel, Engineering Manager for Dean Technology. “For a long time, we’ve built custom solutions for customers using this technology and we’ve put all of that learning into the OPC10M. It is a very useful and stable optical switch that we’re very excited to have gotten into production.”

Dean Technology intends to release a wide range of new optical devices, starting with the OPC10M. A range of optical switches with higher voltages and power levels is planned, and a full line of optical diodes with clear encapsulation is already in the works. Custom parts for both of these types of products are being produced now and DTI has engineering resources ready to help with custom development for any customer’s needs.
